Friends Of Old Time Music
From 1961 to 1965, the New York City Trail Friends of Old Time Music presented 14 concerts that brought dozens of traditional musicians to city audiences for the first time and contributed to the folk revival. Now, legendary producer Peter K. Siegel, who personally recorded many of the concerts, has provided 55 songs (53 unreleased!) from the original master tapes for this stunning 3-CD set. It’s hard to appreciate how monumental these performances are; Here are the first concert performances by Doc Watson, Roscoe Holcomb and Joseph Spence, and the triumphant returns of Doc Boggs and Mississippi John Hurt, both of whom made influential records in the city 40 years ago. A 60-page booklet puts everything in context. Other artists included Fred McDowell, The Stanley Brothers, Hobart Smith, The Greenbriar Boys, Bill Monroe and Maybelle Carter… what a treasure for folk and country fans!
